To participate in the Transanatolia you need a bike with roadbookholder, tripmeter (ICO) and a gps. The fuel autonomy should be enough for 150 kilometers in tough terrain. The routes of the Transanatolia follow public gravelroads and rocks. On some days you navigate using your gps, 'off piste' as we also call it. That's why a gps is obligatory. The waypoints are provided by the organisation, as long as you have a Garmin gps with mini-usb connection. The routes are not to hard, but for unexperienced riders definitely a big challenge. A bit of perseverance is required. But that's what rally-raid is all about!
The Transanatolia can be ridden with any offroad or allroad bike. A BMW 1200 GS might not be the best choice, but the rider makes all the difference. A lightter bike will make life easier off course! There's not so much sand in the routes, except for day three. It will be dusty for sure. Nice tracks with technical sections you will ride plenty. Good weather in Turkey is almost guaranteed, so the chance on mud is small, especially in september. Temperatures can vary from 15 to 35 degrees Celcius.
Every day Memotours is prominently present with their 6x6 assistance truck. If necessary, mechanical repairs can be taken care off as much as necessary, with all requirements nearby. And your equipment is always nearby. Thinking back of a beatiful day on the hotelterrace, enjoying some more summerdays in september in Turkey!
